YAMANAKA Yoko, the winner of the Oshima Prize 2025
The sixth Oshima Prize 2025 goes to Yamanaka Yoko, director of "Desert of Namibia".

■Director's bio
Born in 1997 in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Studied at the College of Art at Nihon University. Her self-produced directorial debut Amiko (2017) was selected for the PFF Awards 2017. The following year, at the age of 20, they were invited to the 68th Berlin International Film Festival, as the youngest director ever selected in the festival’s history for a feature-length film. The film was screened in more than ten countries, including Hong Kong and New York. Her second film, Desert of Namibia (2024), was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where she received the FIPRESCI Prize. In 2024, she won the won the Gold Award for Shindo Kaneto Award, which honors outstanding new directors.
