TOKYO BITCH, I LOVE YOU

TOKYO BITCH, I LOVE YOU

2013/HDcam/70min/Color
Director:Kohki Yoshida

Sex worker Hatsue is carrying on an affair with married man Yoshinori, who she first met as a client. He feels stifled by his life with his wife, but his secret trysts with Hatsue bring him peace of mind. On the other hand, Hatsue avoids becoming emotionally connected to others, but finds that the moments she spends with Yoshinori are the only times she feels like a woman. One day, Yoshinori is asked by one of his work colleagues to be a guarantor for a loan, which leads to his wife finding out about his relationship with Hatsue... This adaptation of a play of the same title (performed by theater unit Austra Macondo) takes CHIKAMATSU Monzaemon's Bunraku narrative "The Love Suicides at Sonezaki" and shifts the setting to modern-day Tokyo. YOSHIDA Kohki makes a departure from his works to date to break new ground, displaying his steady directorial hand with this existential melodrama that unfolds in a corner of a vast metropolis.
