Dear Festival Friends

24th, March, 2011

The Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake that struck northeastern Japan on 11 March and the subsequent accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant have been the focus of much concern around the world, and to those of you who have sent us warm words of encouragement, we appreciate your kind thoughts. Thank you very much.

Here at the Pia Film Festival, the office and staff have fortunately been relatively unaffected.
Applications for the PFF Award Competition 2011 are still being accepted.
This year, the deadline is March 31, and the finalists will be announced in July. These works will be screened at the Pia Film Festival 2011, which will be held in September in Tokyo.

The recovery of the Tohoku area, or rather, of Japan itself will still probably take a very long time. But Pia Film Festival will continue to do whatever it can by having faith in the power of film and in the power of the nameless aspiring young filmmakers everywhere.

Now, more than ever before, we ask that you keep your eyes on Japanese films.

In the meantime, I will be attending the Hong Kong International Film Festival currently being held with the director of Good Morning to the World!!, Satoru Hirohara, and the director of Fit, Hiromasa Hirosue. Also, Kohki Yoshida of Household X will be attending the Buenos Aires International Film Festival of Independent Film and the JeonJu International Film Festival.

We look forward to seeing you again someday, somewhere.

Yours sincerely,

Keiko Araki
